Venidium, Emilia, Mentzelia, Stylomecon, Leonotis

I have been considering annuals to grow from seed next year, and I like the description of these unfamiliar species. Has anyone else grown them?

I really fancy having a go at Leonotis, they are lovely plants and so big in one year.
They've been something I've hankered after for a few years, ever since I first saw them growing.
Not at all sure how well they would enjoy growing here though, it's not much like South Africa, unless we can guarantee another summer like this one.
The trouble is, if I did get it to grow, I would want to overwinter it, and my GH is always stuffed with what I have already!

I quite fancied Leonotis too, until I read they can grow to 180cmx180cm and would probably get even bigger here. Monty grows (or used to grow) it in his jewel garden and that’s where I first saw it (in print, not IRL, sadly!). I am thinking of the Lychnis Chalcedonica (Maltese Cross) instead, at a more border friendly 120cmx30cm.

I hadn’t heard of any of the others, but some pretty plants, Alan.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

I could make the space, but not the weather :)
Might give it a whirl next year though, as I've just been clearing the rear slope of our dam which gives me a whole new and large area to plant up. I've got a lot of things to move or split but have plans for some new things. New plants won't fill all the space at first, so a good time for a huge annual!
