  Hi Tony, that's definitely a myth as you've discovered!  I have several which actually start black then turn dark green and finally red or yellow.

  They do that, except the ones I’m growing this year, they are white. No taste though, won’t grow them again.

  Thank you both for your comments, you are right Bob one on my bushes has turned black and red ! Do i cut back the leaves to get more sun on them like tomatoes ?

  Tony, pepper fruits can get sun-scald so it's actually better for the fruit to be shaded by the leaves than be exposed to strong sun.  I grow mine in pots and sometimes turn them to shade developing fruit.
