When is the best time to repot Hippeastrums?

There seem to be two schools of thought.
1. As soon as they have finished flowering.
2. In midwinter when they are completely dormant.
I'm not talking about the specially treated, to-flower-at-Xmas variety. These are ones I've had for several years.
