Which Sorbus would you choose and why for a light canopy and white berries in a medium-sized suburban garden. I’m thinking S cashmiriana, S vilmorinii or S hupehensis.
S.cashmiriana would be an excellent choice ; in a slightly acidic soil it does well here in E.Lincs . Yellowish autumnal colouration and pure white marble sized fruits make it a perfect addition to any garden . Kepp meaning to try from seed sometime as the fruits are prolific , but never seem to get around to it ; too b****y busy most days !
I've grown both vilmorinii and cashmiriana, I like both but prefer vilmorinii because the autumn foliage is reddish and the berries, which are not white, but start deep crimson and turn a pale pink/whitish as they age... a very small tree, preferring some moisture at the root... you could grow a group of 3 of these, and they would never get in the way... The problem with cashmiriana was that, the foliage, which is ferny and wonderful, develops very early in Spring, but then defoliates very early in autumn, my tree shed all its leaves by mid September, - I call that a bit too early... and the berries were soon demolished by birds...
