Planting Suggestions

Hi Everyone.  I have two small rockery type areas which need planting up.  I was thinking it would be suited to some kind of alpine plants but I don't know where to start.  I only have two key requirements:

1) Evergreen
2) Slug proof!

Any suggestions welcome.

I'm having a bad time at the moment Hosta.  Lamium threadbare, Agastache stripped, Astrantia shredded.  They have now started on Brunnera, (newly planted) Echinops and even Ajuga.  Best not to mention the Dahlias either.

Up until last night I hadn't been "hunting".  One sweep and I had about 30 slugs and 10 snails.  Used a stick to make a slug kebab which I left for the birds.  This morning I have prepared some beer traps for filling tonight.  If they want a war, they've got one >:)
  • One idea I had in my was for some sedums.  I have Sedum Dragon's Blood in another spot and it has performed quite well.

The plants slugs seem to leave alone for us are Ground Bugle and Pulmonaria, but they are probably better suited to semi-shade.  Euonymus are left alone, and can be good little green staples.  Snails eat my Sedums.  Larger plants that do well in our exposed front garden:  perennial wall flower, lavender, rosemary and shrubby germander.   Spireas (not evergreen) appear to be left alone.  We are on chalk in the south east.  There may be nice small spurges.  Some plants just get eaten almost immediately for us.
  • @Wayside I was pretty sure they would leave my bugle alone too but no such luck.  Their tastes seem to be changing this year.  They had never touched my astrantia before but this year they loved it.  Maybe something to do with the strange weather, who knows?
  • After much pondering at GC I plumped for Pratia 'County Park' and Sedum 'Sexangulare'.  I will be interested to see how they get on.
