Moving phlox paniculata

AnniDAnniD Posts: 12,585
I have a couple of clumps of phlox paniculata that l want to move. They are flowering at the moment, but the soil is very easy to dig at the moment and the forecast is for quite cool weather, so l am tempted !  Any advice please ? Many thanks. :)

You will almost certainly lose the flowers if you do, as they will be first to wilt. Not long to wait till they will be over and it will be fine to move them in autumn.
I'm going to lift and split some of mine now, as thanks to the sheep (grrr) they've currently got hardly any topgrowth and it's a good chance to make more plants. :)

Best to wait until flowering is over as @Buttercupdays says above.
If you move them now or later, best to cut them right down to about 6" fist. Then the roots can concentrate on growing rather than keeping leaves and flowers alive.
I've got several clumps to divide, they've done especially well this year

You'll probably find them growing again next year where they are now. They'll shoot from bits of roots left behind.

Thanks all, l will have an attempt at patience, although l might move one clump after cutting them down as @Pete8 says. I know what you mean @Hostafan1 , l am forever finding new little plants in various locations !
