trumpet vine

hi I planted two trumpet vines in to two large containers at each side of my large archway they were growing great they had grown over the arch very thinly and the bottom of the plants were very thick and bushy with lovely orange flowers but I could not water them for about ten days and when I did get to them all the bushy bottom of the plants had gone there were only long  sticks with no leaves at all  left on them could someone tell me if I cut them down to the ground will they grow back for next year or should I just leave it and see if any new growth comes back first many thanks for all advice given :)

    A plant killed by drought is dead - anywhere. Try water and prayer.
