What is this mysterious patch?

Woke up this morning to this random white patch what looks like grinded egg shells

    Is it hard and gritty or soft? My thoughts were it was a fungus growing on the bark after the rain has wet it. Warm and wet are ideal for fungal growth.

    Before i touched it it looked hard like rgg shells but after moving it I noticef it was soft,  suspected some kind of fungus

    Expect some fruiting bodies(toadstools) in a week or so.

    hmm.. that could be quite cool to see, will they still come if i removed the patch?
