Rain messed up my turfing plans. Clay soil related.

Spent the last few weeks essentially moving soil around the garden, levelling, raking, removing stones, rotovating etc... We were finally at a point where we were ready to lay turf, then the rain came.

Went out this morning to check the garden, took one step in it and nearly lost my foot. It's like a farmer field, a quagmire, can't really walk on it without fear of disappearing.

What do I do? What is my next step? I know that rotovating it added the air, which is why it's like it is, but how long will I need to wait for it to dry out? We've got really clay heavy soil.

After last nights downpour I think it’s probably gonna be a good few weeks before turf is laid. Could anyone advise on how to prevent this from happening? Do I need to treat the soil?

I don't know the answer, but until you get a reply from someone who does know, if you type  lawn drainage  into the search box, there are a number of threads that relate to your question
