A few plant ID's please!

sabeehasabeeha Posts: 344
Hi!

I have a few plant ID's - If I may, can I post them on one thread, as if I try to post a few questions in succesion, it 'freezes me out' for several minutes - or if it is better etiquette to have one plant per post, please let me know :)

Thank you!

1) These are growing in a few plant post - dead, but can see the seeds:

2) The fruit look smaller in real life - is it some sort of apple tree with teeny apples?

3) I think it is a kind of mint (smells very minty) and has purple flowers - anyone know which type? Has it been planted purposely or does it just spring up? (can i take out and plant them all in a pot and they seem a bit scattered in my garden)

4) Is this a weed?

Thank you very much :)

    1 might be Bluebells
The mint looks like a mint, the smell is so distinctive, it it smells like mint, it's mint. Potting it up is probably a good idea, they run amok in the garden
    The last is a geranium

    Thank you nutcutlet  :)

Ok, I think I will do that to the mint...it is just springing up everywhere. All mint is edible, right?

Regarding the bluebells, can i just collect the seeds and leave the rest of the plant there, for it to come up again next spring? or should I just cut it off to the base?

    Thanks

I didn't realise the last one were geraniums! I was going to clear them out of the bed  :|

    Thank you nutcutlet

Thanks Loraine3 - any way of knowing which variety? (so i can read up more!)
  • I think the seed heads could be muscari... grape hyacinth. Depends on what is below the soil. Bluebells are larger white and elongated shape.. muscari are smaller white bulbs?. I think

Ahhh, thank you Monkeylillycat they do look like dead/dried grape hyacinth! (when you google, I haven't seen them in flower)

    They are planted in flowerpots

Could the seeds heads in picture 1 be Convallaria majalis - Liliy of the valley ?

    EDIT:

I missed the last posts sabeeha. I think monkeylilycat may have nailed it.

Anyway, they're all nice plants you have there.

I would go along with grape hyacinth for your first picture, crab apple, mint and geranium.
As others say, mint is probably better in a pot or trough as it’s quite rampant in the garden.
