Sambucus Black Lace

KeenOnGreenKeenOnGreen Posts: 1,831
Our Sambucus has been looking poorly for the past few months.  We're in the South East, so the heatwave and no rain for months are probably the cause.  I've been watering once or twice a day, it's in full sun, in the ground.  Despite recent heavy rains, it's still getting worse.  Could this be disease, rather than heat/water related?

might be too much water, mine is in poor dry soil, had no rain from sometime in May til last week, hasn't been watered at any time and it's fine.

Aah, that's really useful to know.  I did wonder if I was over-watering, to compensate for the heatwave.  I also mulched it quite heavily. I'll lay off the watering, seeing as the rain has decided to return with a vengance.

Mine are fine too, also on poor sandy well-drained soil with very little rain over the last 3 months or so and no watering. They haven't grown as tall as they do in a normal Great British Summer, and the leaves are smaller and somehow tougher looking than usual, but on the plus side it hasn't had the usual blackfly on the new growth.

also, for the future, I don't think there's anything that needs watering daily if it's planted in the garden
