Do cucumbers get worn out?

Pete.8Pete.8 Posts: 11,340
I'm a novice cucumber grower.
I've got a Cucino in a 22L pot in my greenhouse. It's grown up the netting and across the width of the greenhouse.
I picked the first Cue on 15th June and since then I've had 251 cucumbers from the one plant
But for the last week the plant looks tired and there are no flowers or baby cucumbers forming.
Is that usual?

What did you do with 251 cucumbers? :/

    :)
I'm not a huge fan of cucumbers tbh, but I ate probably 4-5 a week in sarnies and salads, the rest were distributed amongst the neighbours.
When I mentioned the plant wasn't producing any more, one comment was -'thank goodness'! :)

I suspect that you and your neighbours have produced  gases which are contributing to climate change ;)

Must be why it's been so hot here recently :)
I hated cues as a child due to the burps - that's where my dislike came from I suspect.
Modern varieties don't seem to have the same effect. I like the taste, but it's probably my childhood memories that still lurk and put me off a bit, I'm coming round to like them tho - just as well!
I grew the same variety last year (my first ever cucumber plant) which also produced masses (but I didn't keep a tally) then the whole plant slipped down the cane I was training it on in early August, the stem got crushed and that was pretty much the end of it.
So I was wondering if this is typical, should I pull the plant up or will it start producing again?

I remember working in a garden and having a break with some builders working there.
The old boy opened his sandwiches, took out the cucumber and threw it away.
    " Don't you like cucumber?"
"No and my wife does them for me every day"
" Why not ask her to change to something else?"
" She's made me cucumber sandwiches for the last 43 years. It'd break her heart if I told her I hate them."

    He was indeed.
I used to see him in his van over the next 15 years or so, still working well into his 80s

After producing 251 cucumbers in 8 weeks (over 4 a day), I think your plant is entitled to look a bit worn out!

    Thanks @Womble54
I've since learnt elsewhere that cucumber plants do get exhausted and give -up  typically after about 6-8 weeks of production, so that makes sense.
Now I know, I can plan to sow twice next year and keep the cue's coming.
I had assumed it would carry on producing 00's of cue's until the frosts
