Calathea - Leaf colour

Hi 
I have a Calathea plant and some of the leaves are a very light green. I don't water it too often (letting the soil dry out between watering) and keep it in a relatively light room across from a window but not in direct sunlight. Can anyone tell me if why some of the leaves are so light in colour and if this is a bad thing?I've attached a photo for reference. Thanks.

    Calatheas like shade and moisture. It shouldn't really be allowed to dry out for more than the top inch of soil before watering again and they like to be misted regularly in a dry room.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Does that mean that the bottom layer of soil should be slightly damp then?

    Yes, that's where the roots go looking for moisture and food.

    Best to water by dunking the pot in a bucket of water till no further air bubbles appear and then let it drain till it stops dripping.  That way you know the compost is moist but not sodden.   Every now and again put it under the shower to remove dust from the leaves.

    Thanks, I'll do that from now on.
    Is the water issue what's causing the light leaves then?
