Germinating bird Seed

Plant with orange stems and tendrils is growing amongst germinating bird seed and twining around them.  It has no chlorophyll at all.  What is it and is it harmful?

    Bingo!  You've got in in one.  I should have known as I used to teach biology.  Do you think I should destroy it as it hasn't flowered yet.  I have let the bird seed germinate this year - not a good idea it seems.

    I'm afraid I have no first-hand experience of it but I'd just remove it by hand and destroy it and try not to let the bird seed germinate again as it sounds like the dodder seeds came with that.

    Hi jh. It is possble to get 'no grow' bird seed to avoid oddities popping up.

    I love the story of an old lady who sent a picture of a mystery plant into GQT that had germinated from bird seed.  Turned out it was a cannabis plant :)

    @1634Racine I have heard that story too. Apparently she was very proud of her 'new plant'.

    This one doesn’t but I Mix niger seed in with it and that does, but easily pulled out.
    i wouldn’t ever buy anything else but this one, there’s never a grain of anything wasted, and there’s a good mix of everything in it, only the best for my birds 🙂

    I have beautiful 4 foot tall grasses growing from the bird seed.
    Everyone is just trying to be Happy.....So lets help Them.
