If it is snowberry @sabeeha I'd watch it like a hawk. Has it had any white berries on it? I'm rubbish at this sort of stuff but it looks a bit like a bush honeysuckle? I think you might need flowers or one of the v clever people on this forum  :)

    Thank you Fritillary and herbaceous

I took a closer look and saw these flowers at the ends of some of the stems - after googling I think it is snowberry

I take it when you say I should watch it like a hawk that the berries are most probably dangerous?

It does make me a bit nervous when I have poisonous plants in my garden - I do tell my kids that we are not allowed to eat berries from bushes, but I have caught my daughter holding berries to play with - probably because they look interesting.

Don't know about poisonous @sabeeha as I've never been tempted, the birds love them but I am trying desperately to stop them taking over one corner of my garden. I started a thread a few days ago and now I am going to get a mattock and wreak vengeance.

They are lovely bushes if you keep an eye on them, berries much prized by florists my eldest daughter (florist obviously) tells me as she strips them off!

Ah I see! Where they are, they look quite young, and are quite restricted (very narrow brick lined bed)... neighbouring some rampant japanese anemones.  As long as they don't start growing between the pavers as the latter have, I'll be ok for the time being!
