Dahlia flower

why do all my light coloured dahlia flowers look half dead when they open?

they look horrible as soon as they start to open and are worse than what the pictures show.

on the plus side the brighter colours are getting into their stride and looking very good.

I have the same problem. I am praying for rain.

I thought the same with my dahlias (first time I've been able to get them to grow instead of rotting) Unsure of variety but pic on the packet showed a good strong pink with a yellowy centre. When they opened as a drab cream and scruffy I was so disappointed and felt cheated but they've got better and better, they're actually a very hot pink at the minute, just what I wanted for my 'hot bed'. Others have yet to open their buds.
  • Thanks guys, I’m glad I’m not the only one to have that problem and I did think it could be to do with the lack of rain. Hopefully they will improve before the end of the year.

I’ve been disappointed with my dahlia this year, too, with some buds not even managing to open but turning black. I’ve put it down to the weather, as I water regularly and give them some feed. Oh well, maybe next year it will perform better.
