Takes a bit of time but tastes great and chutney keeps well.

IME, all it takes to ripen tomatoes is time.  I once took a lot of time and trouble wrapping them individually in newspaper and emptied a drawer to keep them in because I'd heard that was what you do.  I then spent a lot more time every day or two, unwrapping them to check for ripeness and re-wrapping those that weren't ready yet, which was most of them.  Nowadays I just line them up on the window sill, which seems to work just as well.

Many thanks! these are all great suggestions - I think I will just leave them to time! the tomato wrapping service is a bit beyond me but well done josusa for trying! the green chutney could also be an option - many thanks!
