Planting new Zealand flax

I have been given a bunch of new Zealand flax''s all with one or two small shoots.  But have no idea how I am ment to plant them.  How deep do the roots need to be? How close can I plant them together? Any help would be most appreciated

Each one can spread to about 4 or 5 ft wide so plant accordingly. Leaving space between.

  • Thank you. Any idea how deep do I plant them?

Don't plant them so deep that part of the leaf is buried. If they're unstable it would be better to remove some of the leaf. Can you take a photo to show exactly what you're dealing with?

I find, if they're just small pieces, it's best to pot them up [sometimes with a couple of short twigs in the pot to give them support ] and then let them grow to a decent size and the roots have developed enough to fill the pot. Woodens skewers are also quite effective - I've done three of them and a little circle of string to give support to small pieces. They come away quite quickly.
As nut says, pieces with a lot of stem/foliage are better chopped a bit so that there's less for the roots to deal with.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
