Can I lift and move Delphiniums now

I planted four Delphiniums from Blackmore & Langdons last year.  I have a problem with two of them one was trodden on by builders and I cut it down to the ground a month ago but it has shown no sign of regrowth. Do you think it is dead?  The other one has barely grown more that a couple of inches.

I am thinking of lifting them potting them up and then improving the soil (medium Loam) with a couple of bags of J Arthur Bowers Well rotted organic manure and bone meal.  So my questions are can I lift the delphiniums and if so shall I pot them up and replant them in the spring or replant once I have improved the soil.

  • Most people would say no but I'm with Jimi Blake's on this and that is move, divide at any time as long as you look after them water, feed then there is no reason why they won't grow.

I would do exactly as you suggest pot them up improve the soil and replant later this year or in the spring, just keep them well watered until established and hopefully you will have a great show next year.
