Acer bare branches

my Acer has started to show bare patches on the branches. It has a good soak at least once a week and a comfy feed every month. It’s around 7 years old and has been repotted several times

Do you have a photo Steph?
A bit more info would help us come up with some ideas.

It's probably dry. They need huge amounts of water when in pots - even in an ordinary summer. They'll shed leaves to help avoid too much water loss, and preserve themselves.
Or did you mean bare sections of the actual branch - the bark?
