Tree Fern - Dicksonia Antarctica
in Plants
Hi All. I have a lovely 6’ Dicksonia Antarctica tree fern that is planted in the ground. Ive had it for around 7 years and it is growing really well and producing lovely fronds each year.
However I’ve noticed that the roots on the trunk aren’t growing with the tree, meaning it looks a bit odd. It gets watered every day by an irrigation system and in summer it gets fed once a week.
Does anyone know why the roots aren’t growing up the trunk where the old fronds have been removed?

Just found your post ; had similar problem with mine a few years ago .
I cut the old fronds off in the autumn much closer than you have done ; try removing the old 'pegs' with secateurs right to the trunk .
The stem is actually a mass of root , and I've found a daily soaking of the 'trunk' is conducive to the type of growth you require .
Hope this helps !
Thank you very much for your reply and I will try those suggestions.
Thanks, Steve
Good luck .
