Rose suckers or not.

Can anyone please tell this rose growing novice if these are suckers on my Arthur Bell climbing rose. These are very fat and vigorous vertical growing stems. One has branched into four higher up. Please advise. This is its second year in the garden and first for flowers which were stunning  many thanks in advance

    With five leaflets they look OK to me. The crux is whether they are coming from below the graft line or not. If it is on its own roots, you don't have a problem, if grafted on to  a rootstock, anything from the rootsstock, below the graft line needs to be taken off.

    No, they are not suckers..  A sucker from a modern rose like that would not have any thorns on it... and the foliage would be entirely different..
