Sorry about that Brian and Rita, an easy mistake to make as I have an uncle and aunt with the same names who also live in Dorset! And my aunt Rita is also a professional gardener. Would you believe it! Anyway, welcome to the forum.
Hi BrianRita! We worked in Kings Norton for years then retired to Dorset to be near to our daughter and her family who live in Poole. Absolutely love it here!
First can I mention, I've been relegated from a gardener to a writer because my MBH (Much Better Half) thinks I'm better at this than gardening. So I shall contribute to the wildlife section mostly as been interested for about 75 years, and yes she knows a lot about, and loves wildlife also. Write in again tomorrow.
We're getting much older but probably not much wiser.
Hi Berkley, had a look at the results of the disastrous Upton Heath nature reserve fire this morning. We live a little way north east of here. Lizzie27: Yes quite a co-incidence and thank you for writing. Raisingirl: Answer your questions later today, no we don't think you're nosey.

raisingirl asked: Have you got a large garden or a postage stamp? Are you starting out or been doing it for years?
The garden's about 70ft x 55ft, bit too big to manage now and we get
outside help. Inside, sometimes as well trying to delay the inevitable
'Rest Home'.
I only got interested in growing stuff after we moved down here
1960s era but my wife caught the 'growing bug' especially fruit &
veg from her dad, starting during her infant's school days early
1940s. The War terminated his successful landscape business, but
soon gained Head Gardener status at what I believe was the largest
brewery in the West Midlands... we attended the school together by
the way.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
