Sap coming out if plum fruit??

Hi All,

i had a fruit tree kindly identified by a forum mumber on here as a plum tree. When i look at the fruit, i noticed there is a kind of sap oozing from some of the fruit.

when i touch this sap, its like solid balls when broken off. Can anyone give advice as to whether this is a disease of some kind and whether the fruit/tree is ruined?

I have attached a pic

Thanks in advance
Chris

If you cut the plum in half you will probably find a pink wiggly larva of the plum moth. The gummy drop is a response by the plum to damage. You can use plum moth traps in Spring to cut down the damage.
  • Oh wow, thank you. So i will need to get rid of them and take the advice for next season i think. Thanks very much for your help!

I would pick them and look inside. There may be no worm, just tree stress. Have a look.
