Are my brassicas unwell?

hi everyone,

As a newbie first year grower I don’t know really what to expect. I out in my Brussel sprouts last month, 2 rows of two different varieties. Some of the leaves are a little distorted with marks on them. I’m washing off whitefly but wasn't sure if there was something more sinister happening..

I think they're looking good @Caroline117  ... I can't see anything I'd worry about ... a little bit of sun scorch perhaps ... but then I think we're all suffering from that a bit ... even me and I try to stay in the shade

Maybe a slug or snail has had a nibble or two, but they're strong healthy looking plants and providing you keep the caterpillars and the pigeons off them (and they look well protected) they'll outgrow anything I can see there.

    Well done  :)

  • Oh that’s really reassuring thank you. Yes before I got to plant them I plucked numerous tiny caterpillars and eggs off the leaves (cabbage whites are prolific this year I’ve noticed!) . They are nicely under butterfly netting so should be protected enough. Instead I have a mischievous mole that’s rumbling around the bed at the moment 🙄🙄! I’ll keep a good eye on them for a bit.

If the mole dislodges the soil around the roots firm them back in well with a heavy foot ... brassicas really need to be firmly rooted.  :)
