I personally prefer the Latin or Greek name. I don't find them difficult to remember and it's easier to be specific about the plant you want, common names can be confusing I find. However it's entirely down to individual choice and I would not criticise anyone for using common names.
Brexit is another matter but I won't go into that.

At the risk of being shot down in flames, I am going to make a stand for common names.

And where do you stand on geraniums?

As was said on the etymology thread, if you know the plant was named after Leonhard Fuchs it makes the spelling easier.

If I went  to kind of garden centre that puts its plants in alphabetical order, and you can buy them when they're not even in full bloom,I would probably be looking for a specific plant and I would expect to see the Latin names.

If I went to a chain GC to buy some bedding plants or whatever, I would just be surfing the plants to see what I liked the look of, and the name wouldn't much matter to me. The main thing I would read on the label would be the ideal growing conditions. Although they all seem to say sun/partial shade; moist free draining soil these days (oxymoron if you ask me!).

    In London. Keen but lazy.
