Those are much better pictures, and unfortunately it does look like it could be Japanese knotweed.

There's an ID sheet on this website:http://www.nonnativespecies.org/index.cfm?sectionid=47

Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

Sadly I have to agree with Jenny J.

    Nah, disagree.

The leaves are the wrong shape, see how they're flat near the stem-side?

JKW is heart shaped and the stems aren't as spindly.

I agree it looks like it, possibly a relative. But for me that is not JKW.

Edit: the leaves are what's bugging me. They do look like JKW leaves now that I've gone back to other pics but unless it's from a very young plant, the stem just looks wrong to me.

Did you ever get it confirmed?

I’ve just googled jkw leaves and try seem more heart shaped than your photos, maybe post some more detailed photos tomorrow to give everyone a better idea but it’s not lookinglike jkw at the moment?

@Caledonia Russian Vine or Mile-a-Minute vine and JKW are related hence the flower similarity.
@*Astrantia* the original post was August last year so the original poster may not see your post.
