Debs - I have a few big resin pots which look like terracotta. They're very light - about 15 inches diameter. I can't recall where I got them - maybe B&Q or Homebase - but they were a reasonable price, and so much lighter than the real thing. I've had them for a few years, and they're now developing a few holes, which I've patched with used teabags and PVA glue
This is one of them taken about four years ago- with the crocus poking through
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Look lovely. Not had much luck with clematis in pots but as my home is rented I don't have a lot of choice though I may consider one at the allotment. Now I know there are scented varieties I am tempted to try again, you and Obelixx have both been very helpful re nurseries etc thanks so much.
Take a look at Taylor's Clematis online - you can put in the requirements and it'll bring up a load of suggestions. Thorncroft and Hawthorne's also have big ranges, so you should be able to get something to suit. It's always a bit trickier in pots, just because you need to be a wee bit more vigilant with care etc.

Re the akoensis. I had a plant and lost it the first Winter, I now have another plant which I am determined to master. Info from a clematis fanatic in Holland says that the plant from South Taiwan is not hardy. The worst enemy is Winter wet. Spring and Summer water the plant and feed with 10.30.20. NPK, lay off watering in Winter. Prune hard after flowering.
