Hemerocallis

Has anybody grown Hemerocallis in pots?  if so, how long before they need repotting?  The two I am thinking about are not too vigorous and once they have flowered they tend to get lost amongst the other plants in the border.  I think they will be more striking in pots which can be moved around.  Thank you in advance.

I have lots in pots (2 years now) waiting to go into borders which will not be made till autumn now.   They're fine as long as they have good compost, feed and watering.   Check each spring for the need to pot them on as flowering reduces if their roots get congested, even in borders.

Ideally they should be lifted every three years and separated or they can choose to stop flowering, you’ll just get loads of leaves.

  • Thank you both for the advice - I will pot them and see how they go.
