Plants that grow well in small planters

I have 6 relatively small planters - the type that hang off a fence - and I was wondering what plants would grow well in them. They receive plenty of sunshine as they are hanging from a south aspect fence. I don’t want anything that will get too big and overhang the path on the other side.

Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

Annuals would do pretty well in small pots that don't need long term nutrition - petunias, begonias, bacopa, lobelia. Perennials, not so much, perhaps. Alpines or succulents, maybe. How big are your planters? I don't put anything in small planters or pots because I don't like watering. Generally the smaller the pot = the more constant attention they need.
