I have no problem. there are others that look similar but their web is a dead give away and the whole species have varying patterns & colours too..but once you confirm what they are easy to id...in fact they are quite pretty.
We had a mass of false widows at our previous property and because they love the warmth and will move indoors in winter decided to get rid of them, suspect they came in some of my new plants. They were all living on the south side of the bungalow roof eves. I leave all others alone and never had a problem. The long spindly legged ones love to eat the fast short legged spiders and I even allow them to stay indoors until they get too big then they are evicted to the garden. I am scared of spiders but learn to live with the majority.
its only been this year I've spotted them and they are close to the house along south facing walls, but London zoo bug man assures me they are not big threat and have been over here for hundreds of years, even so I don't want them in the house, so have sprayed deterrent around all doors/windows/vents
