Hi Dove, as I'm a little late to this thread could I tentatively request a small number of seeds. If you don't have enough it's fine but I'm sowing larkspur again this autumn and I'm intrigued by this 'new' delphinium.

Hi @Dovefromabove, you may be able to help me. I have asked this on a older seed thread but seems to have been missed. I am collecting seeds for the firs time this year. I have 2 delphiniums a F1 guardian blue and a magic fountain. Both have green seed pods on them now. Do I have to wait for them to dry out on the plant before collecting or can I take them off now and allow them to dry in a envelope?  Thanks in advance.

In the absence of Dove, what you need to do Burtsnest is wait until the seed pods turn brown. I usually let the pod begin to open slightly as well before collecting the seeds in an envelope or suitable paper receptacle. If the seeds rattle in a brown pod, that's a good sign they're ready  :)

@Fishy65 your a star 🤴 thanks very much. Do you sew immediately or keep them. The advice I've been reading is conflicting.

With delphiniums, the sooner the better as their shelf life isn't the longest. However if you sow them within a year or so you should be ok. I'll sow mine this autumn and overwinter them in the greenhouse. Do you have a GH or cold frame?

    I have a greenhouse ( pretend plastic one) 😂

They'd be fine in there but don't keep them all zipped up because they don't need it. Before I had my greenhouse I had plants sitting in pots open to everything winter threw at them. Even with a GH the door and vents are open nearly all the time  :)

Brilliant thanks @Fishy65. It will be the first year using it so that's good to know.
