Crocosmia query

AnniDAnniD Posts: 12,585
My crocosmia have suffered in the heat, the flowers have shrivelled and the leaves have gone brown.  Please can anyone advise what l should do. I don't know if l should give loads of water, cut the leaves off  or if they've had it?  Many thanks.   :)

Crocosmia like water. If they have not completely died down, water them. If they are all brown and crinkly, you can only hope there is enough in the corm for them to flower next year.

Can you see new shoot coming up?
I pull the spent ones hard, right out of the ground to make way for the new ones.  Not sure if they will give to you yet though as it’s a bit early.
Those leaves won’t recover, once brown they stay brown.

Mine goes brown at the end of the season, when the show is over AnniD. Maybe the 'heatwave' has brought it about early for yours 😞.
Some people like to tidy them up and remove the old leaves, but I leave mine on overwinter and pull them off when I see the new growth emerging.

That’s right Kitty, cutting them off looks awful.

Thanks for your replies, I will give them water & keep an eye on them (although it could be too late). I'll cut the leaves down a bit so they don't look quite so obvious & cross my fingers. @Lyn, can't see any new shoots as yet.

Ok, give them some water, chances are if you cut the brown tips off, they will just go brown further down.  Waif for new shoots to show then you can sort them properly.

No harm in drowning crocosmia. Mine are all flat and flaccid.
