Something to grow up Camellia

Hi folks
my first post on here, have had my 1st garden for 6 months and loving it
i inherited from the previous home owner a mature well established garden and it’s been great working out what it all is
there is a large Camellia and it was great In flower earlier in the year
i saw on Gardner’s world this year that Nick suggested growing plants up a Camellia to give it more interest (one was a red leaved plant)

any ideas what this plant was or possible alternatives?

thanks

I didn’t see it but that is something I would never do, enjoy the camellia, plant a climber up a trellis.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • Clematis mandshurica growing through a shrub rose, this is how clematis grow in the wild, through shrubs and trees, not plastered on a wall.

Ok on a Rose, not on a Camelia, not for me anyway.

I recommend Tropaeolum Speciosum, the Scottish Flame Flower. They need a little shade at the roots, but provided the soil is moist and more on the acidic side, they will scramble their way through the shrub and thrive. Just rip off or cut down in winter.
  • Thanks folks. Will have a think about what to do
