Shrinking Violet

Potting up hostas.

I have a couple of hostas that have been totally overshadowed by nearby planting.  My own fault - I should have thought it through a bit better at the outset.  One is the Patriot, and another a blue/green one (actual cultivar unknown or forgotten).  I also have another in a large pot which is thriving.
I would like to pot up the two that are struggling under the adjoining plants - but should I do it now or wait until spring when the new growth emerges?
I would soak the ground thoroughly before lifting them and hope to give them the space they must crave.
Any advice?

I’d go for it now, take a big clump of soil, they won’t know they’ve been moved.

Lyn - I did what you suggested, and, so far so good!  Hopeful that they have survived the move.  This cooler, wetter weather helps.  Thanks
