Please can you help me with ideas for garden I can share with my garden with my neighbors

I would like to share the lovely space I have in the garden to the people that don’t have a pice of garden on which they can grow, after just a few months in to my new home and being quite successful in my growing I would like to share my good fortune with everyone. And to use my space to achieve the happiness it’s given me.

Where are you gardening? I am sure there are people who would jump at the chance to share but you will need to be sure you get on with your garden partner and probably set out some ground rules for who does what and who plants what.

There are several garden sharing orgs out there.

Also your local allotments might be able to help out, esp if they have a waiting list of people wanting to grow. Your local horticultural college, also.

This is a lovely kind idea.  I used to live near a lady whose largish back garden was beside a public park.  It had high walls and a door which opened onto a public footpath.  She kept a sign by the door inviting anyone who had no garden to apply to her for a key to the side gate so they could relax and take the air. The sign also specified that the garden wasn't open to dogs or children, as there was ample provision for them in the park and she saw the value of the garden as its tranquility.  I never saw the garden or met its owner, but I think they must both have been lovely.

Are you going to give away all control on what they do or do you have some rules.
For how long will they be allowed to work on the area
Will you ask them to go if you dont approve

You have a great and Christian motive but some people will take advantage of you

Pictures would help us as you have just given us "an idea "
Everyone is just trying to be Happy.....So lets help Them.

Not at all. See the space sharing orgs linked above. Big Dreams, Small Spaces (Monty) featured a lady who converted her small front garden to make it open to the public. She grew fruit and veg and had a free picking policy. She was trying to encourage her neighbours to grow and eat veg and meet the neighbours. It worked very well. That programme encouraged me to grow cherry toms on my front wall, with a sign for passers by to help themselves.

There was also episode on Beechgrove recently (I think) about a garden sharing network where an older woman right on the beach, could no longer work her garden, so opened it up to younger people with no garden. They split the veg they grew and it works really well.

The OP could look also into the community gardens movement. If you want to discuss this and want more info, mail me.
