Weeping cherry issue

I have a friend who asked me to have a look at his weeping cherry as there were weeping areas and some dying twigs and leaves.  I think it's canker but would welcome verification.  If it is canker, the remedy is tree removal.  This affirmed would also be welcomed.

It does sound like Canker and unfortunately, you are right, this can mean the tree is literally dying slowly from the insides.

But without seeing the tree and where it is affected, you can sometimes prune out the dried and dead branches to stem the spread. If you are doing this, you would need to really cut much further back from dying parts by at least a foot, because sometimes the areas that visually don't look affected have already started dying. If it's in the main trunk, then the tree is probably beyond saving.

Hopefully this will show the symptoms

Doing it from the phone so a bit restrictive.

Thanks for posting that photo. You mentioned weeping areas, so I'm assuming this is one of the areas? I would prune that branch off now. Any similar branches, do the same. This will give the tree a fighting chance.
