Sorry if been asked before - Sweet Peas

Hi all, I grew some fab sweet peas this year, first time.. they were going great guns, lovely long stems etc - now all of a sudden the roots and lower leaves are pale yellow and it's Creeping up the plants. They're in a 4ft container and about 18"depth...with good drainage.  They have slowed right down flowering and have now got very short stalks.  Any ideas what has caused this? I'd like to know for next year's attempt. They get watered daily and fed once every 2 weeks, they're in a sunny aspect as well.  Thanks guys x

Maybe they've just finished their flowering for the year? Mine too are only on very short stems now, they've just run out of steam.

Have you been picking them and or removing dead flower stems?
If you let them go to seed they think their job is done and stop flowering.

My sweet pea flowers are failing to form properly in spite of watering thoroughly.  When they do there is only one flower per very short stalk.  So I think it is the heat, the hot sunshine.

Mine were thriving beautifully - long stalks and everything ..  then boom... they really slowed down even though they had perfect conditions. Must be running out of energy as another poster has mentioned.

Ahhh well it was nice while it lasted... I'll look forward to next year now.   Just wondering what to plant in the container to give some interest now... Thanks for commenting 😊

Mine (Matucana) are going great guns, but I grew them from plugs in the border, and have been watering daily with few exceptions. Beginner’s luck probably.

sweet peas have a deep root run, 18 inches of container, is pretty small, also feeding every 2 weeks isnt enough they are really greedy, I used to grow mine in pots, this year for the first time, they are in the ground and have been much better.

Last year for the first time I planted some of mine in pots............never again, they were a nightmare to keep watered and definitely didn't last as long as those in the ground.
