What kind of Cricket?

I heard something chirping away, for the first time ever, in fact, and found this guy hanging about on my step ladders.

I've found plenty of small green crickets, but none of this size and colour.

    Saltamontes.......... he looks very Spanish!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
  • Well... I just offered him a San Miguel and there was no response :#

Looks like a common field grasshopper.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • I agree with wild edges. They come in various colours - I once had a pink one in my garden!
  • First time I've seen a grasshopper in my patio!

Did you quietly creep up behind her shout 'arriba, arriba', shaking castanets and see if she hopped it?

Last year we heard what we thought was a very loud grass hopper or cricket. Turned out to be a grasshopper warbler bird. The song is totally like an insect. I thought they were named that way because they eat grasshoppers but it's actually the sound they make. He was sitting in the wilderness behind our fence, a quite indistinct looking chap but the sound is amazing.
