watering my plums - help!

Parts of my (espaliered) four year old Victoria Plum tree on my allotment are dying and the plums shrivelling up.  I try to water it every day but nothing seems to stop this creeping death.  Could I be over watering?  Or is it just this heat that is doing for it (I live in Dorset and it's 30 degrees most days at the moment.  There's no shade and theres been not a drop of rain since the end of May.)

I don't know much about diseases of fruit trees, but a photo or 2 would probably help someone who does.
