Magnolia Grandiflora leaf drop

Hi, my 10 ft evergreen magnolia was newly planted last year and this year has lost a lot of leaves.  Do the leaves come back as it is looking very sparse?

If it was only planted last year it'll be this drought that is the cause.
Not much you can do other than keep it well watered and cross your fingers

  • A lot of the leaves dropped off before the drought.  It has been well watered.  I thought it was something called Spring drop.

Sorry - I don't grow them so not something I'm familiar with.
Hopefully someone who is will be along to advise
    Hope it recovers

My Magnolia grandiflora always drops a certain number of leaves each year, usually early summer. Leaves tend to be on the end of branches and not all the way along. Mine is currently flowering.
