Planting advise for new raised borders

I am having my garden re landscaped and now have a raised border (11.5 mtrs) and I have no clue what to do with it. It is in the shade the majority of the time, I don’t want to spend a great deal atm as the relandscaping has cost a fortune. I will post an “in progress” picture to give you and idea, the grass is still to be laid. Thanks Lynne xxx please ignore the trampoline x

Delphiniums? They will need staking but will tolerate share and like a deep nutritious soil.
There are so many other options. Do you want  all year round or one big flash. You might underplant with some bulbs for early spring?

What sort of soil do you have in there? Looks a bit stony. Is it well drained? clay? Is the soil PH acid, neutral, alkaline? That and your shady conditions will govern what will do well there.

Think about how much time you have to look after it and how much of a bashing’s it might get from those balls - lots of delicate tender flowers that need fussing over and staking, and can be easily decapitated, may not suit...

Finally what effect would you like to create? Maybe look to your own interior design taste and the style of the house for inspiration. A no-nonsense easy care border just for a bit of a green backdrop (in which case an array of shrubs might suit) jungle theme, romantic cottage garden, clean and contemporary?

Sorry that’s not a ‘do this’ or ‘plant this’ answer, better to formulate a plan that suits your lifestyle - look at what grows well near you and visit local gardens for ideas if you are stuck. Not a great time to be planting right now, so take some time to mull it over first.

    Good luck!
