Any ideas on improving this hydragenga? Not sure if the soil needs improving somehow? It was like this last year too but I've watered it more this year.

    The soil needs to be loosened. It looks very compacted. Leaf mould and bucket loads of compost mixed in should help your plant. Don't worry too much about it now, it's best to do this in autumn or spring next year when the soil is more workable.
