    I often see them earlier in the season and have wondered what type they are - a lovely colour (all blues are lovely to me).
    I've never seen so many cabbage whites as this year tho - flocks of 'em :)

    Another possibility is the Holly Blue, which is also common. The two species look similar on top, but the undersides of the wings are quite different, with much more conspicuous spots on the Common Blue.

    There are several other blue butterflies in the UK but they are much less common.

    That's a great web link.  Thanks PP and AC.  I've seen 2 different blues here and a cinnabar which is new to me plus tiger moths which are just gorgeous in flight and lots of brown jobs I have yet to identify.   They move so fast it's hard to spot marking and impossible to photograph.

    I did the Butterfly Count with my neice yesterday:

    We saw: Large Whites, Small Whites, a Holly Blue, and a few others which either weren’t on the chart or we couldn’t identify. I saw a few others today too. 
    My garden and I live in South Wales.
