The pot has a hole the size of a ten pence piece in the centre .I'm keeping it moist but the fir is dieing off... I bought the fir and the other plant, cut the fir right down the middle and put either side of the white flower plant and potted. Its just started to die though  any idea how to save it please?

Why did you cut it in half?

I'd seen it done on a gardening program and there was no reference to it doing any harm to the plant...

You cut ferns in half when they are dormant.  It looks like it needs a bigger pot. I would keep misting it with a hand sprayer, keep it out of direct sunlight. A shady place outside with regular misting might help. Once a week, plunge the whole pot into a bucket of water until it stops bubbling.

I think a bigger pot, somewhere shady and keep it moist. And keep your fingers crossed!

Ahh but you haven't. At the end of the day it is only a plant that cost a couple of quid so no need for tears yet!

Feeding it won't help. Feeding damaged or stressed plants really isn't a good idea.

The advice to keep well watered, and out of direct sun is correct. Ferns are usually very tough plants, so it might be ok, but as hogweed says, they're inexpensive to buy, so it's not a disaster.
I'd get the two plants  in separate pots too - leave the fern[s] in one of their own.  :)
