New lawn and Mushrooms!

Evening all - hope you are all well!

I've recently laid a new lawn (about 2 months ago) and recently I've been finding loads of mushrooms growing up through it.

I cant believe how fast they grow - I literally pull them out in the evening, next morning, they are back!

I'm wondering:

1. Should I be worried? Is this a sign of a bad lawn / soil?
2. Are the mushrooms good or bad for the lawn?
3. How do I get rid of them!?

Thanks in advance!

Andy

They won't harm the lawn. Best advice is to look after the grass with a feed and a regular medium-high cut.

They may well be edible mushrooms!  But don't take my word for it ... get them checked out by someone really reliable if you consider eating them.

'Spent' mushroom compost is often spread on the land where turn is grown ... as soon as the rains came following the drought of 1976 our local playingfield was  covered every morning with a crop of wonderful mushrooms ... I gathered, cooked and froze literally buckets full of them.

But to answer your query ...

    1.  Nothing to worry about ... as I say it's likely that the soil contains mushroom compost and is therefore very good indeed.

    2. The mushrooms are good for the lawn ... they are merely the fruiting body of the network of mycelium which is in the soil breaking down organic matter and making it accessible to the grass roots.

    3.  No need to get rid of them ... they will decompose and disappear.  If you need to mow the lawn just brush them off to the side with a broom or rake so they don't turn into a mashed up mess.
