My neighbour tells me of various crop thefts at his allotments. Weird stuff has been taken, such as courgettes, onions, runner beans etc. They think some of it is pure spite because all those veg are cheap enough to buy in summer.
Whilst stopping for lunch at a pub a few days ago, I wandered into some allotments next door (the gate was open) just to admire the veg I could see, have a look at various netting contraptions/fruit cages and see if any of their runner beans had blackfly like us. Within minutes a car had come up with the driver sat just watching me, so I told him I was just admiring the veg and he went off. It occurred to me afterwards that I must have been on CCVT and someone was monitoring the site.
They are considering cameras but of course it's expensive and also not sure how the allotment holders would feel about it but it may have to be an option. I have put forward suggestions about prickly bushes along the most vulnerable side of the site and hopefully the new keys will help.
