Digitalis Dalmatian?

debs64debs64 Posts: 5,184
Hi all. Bought myself 3 lovely digitalis Dalmatian plants at GC yesterday but I want more! Any way of taking cuttings, collecting seeds or otherwise propagating these plants? Any advice gratefully received.
Have any of you had much success growing from seed? If so what varieties would you recommend?

Propagate from seed. Wait until the bottom flower calyces ( seed pods) have turned brown before you collect seed. Either sow at once or store in paper (not plastic) envelopes.  They are supposed to be first year flowering from seed sown in early Spring.

If you’ve got others around the seeds may not come true, I sowed a packet of them some years ago but there are none now, all revert to wild pink colour.
You could be lucky with the first seeds but after that you’ll probably loose them.
Best to buy another packet to be sure.

Sow as soon as you get them, these were sown in June, so you can do them now but don’t plant out until next year.

Edited to add..... sprinkle thinly on top of compost and don’t cover with anything.

I would normally sow as soon as ripe but this year might keep them til temperatures drop a little. Most will just sort themselves out though and seed where they land, I transplant them to where I want them in winter/early spring. They're so mixed up now I would have to buy a new packet if I wanted anything special

Ok to sow in a tray now, just keep a spray bottle of water for them.
i think the OP was intending to buy a packet of seeds.
