Physalis Peruviana - Cape Gooseberry

Greetings

Any experience here with growing these? Do they fruit in their first year? Love the fruit, but hard to get a hold of, and expensive. Could be another interesting addition to my Blueberries and Gooseberries :)

yes, first year but not UK hardy (not in my area anyway). I've grown them a couple of times and thought thy were annuals but later found they were tender perennials

  • How were the fruits? Did they produce many?

lots but small, I had them in pots and I'm not very efficient at watering or feeding so that may have been down to my inadequacies. :)

I have started some of this year, reading up on them it seems you don't get the full potential out of them in the first year but second year they improve so hopefully they will sure survive in the greenhouse over winter .
