Acer tree brown or dead branches

I have some branches which are dead in an Acer tree which we moved back in January.

Just wondering, should we remove those now or wait?  Might they recover?  Some pictures below.

Some branches are quite green (it's a green leaf variety) and these have the most healthy (albeit a bit small) leaves … but the brown branches tend to end in brown totally wilted and crisped leaves (which haven't dropped).

Scratch the bark of the brown stems, if brown under the bark then yes they are dead. It is very difficult to move Acers they are very touchy plants.

I would always remove dead branches from plants like this, dead branches are where the infections start. Tough plants can tolerate that but acers are touchy.

  • Thanks guys, would you remove them at this time of year or wait until Winter?

Also - is this likely to be with the move / root system damage - or "Verticulum Wilt"?
